She'll do her best to respond here. Dear
Julia, Do
plants have a soul? —Sincerely,
Brian
Dear Brian, I
believe that plants have a spirit. All of life in all of its forms
comes from one sacred source - all life shares energy. Different
people believe different things about souls, and have different meanings
for the word, so it is kind of hard to decide if a plant has one or
not. I do believe that to the Creator, plants are sacred beings just
as humans and animals are.
Dear
Julia, We're
going to be visiting family in California this summer and would like
to explore the Redwoods area. Someone had suggested the guided tours
at the Headwaters Forest Reserve in Fortuna. I would like to know what
places you would recommend for us to visit and hike in please. Thanks! —Barbara
Dear Barbara, All of the state parks in
California are beautiful. I have a special love for Grizzly Creek because
that is where I first saw the redwoods. Areas adjacent to the park
are threatened and some are being logged, so there are numerous actions
to protect these groves that have been going on and are likely to still
be when you visit in the summer. You could visit the park and also
call
ahead of time to (707) 825-6598 to see if there are forest actions
going on that could use some food and supplies. This way you could
visit ,
enjoy the beauty, and at the same time help to protect it.
Dear Julia, What
do you think about eating meat? —unsigned
Dear Unsigned, I
don't think it is a sin to eat animals, but what a gift to the
world to not eat animals if you don't need to. I think it is wrong
to
hurt other life needlessly. Animals, the Earth, and our future
suffers terribly because of eating meat. If we do not eat animals,
we are
helping take care of our own bodies, helping animals not to suffer
and helping keep water clean and reduce energy use. Also, we help
protect rainforests by not eating meat, because a lot of rainforests
are being chopped down to create places for cows to graze. —Julia
