We are all children of the Earth
The common thread humanity shares is
that we are all children of the Earth. We all need clean air and water for
our survival. We are all planetary citizens, and the ancient trees are living,
breathing elders that remind us to respect and honor that which we cannot
replace.
Every religion in the world builds shrines,
temples, and churches so people can worship and feel connected to creation
and the Creator. Yet the ancient forest cathedrals are continuously desecrated
by industrial logging practices. Protecting the sacred forest ecosystems
is a moral imperative on behalf of all life and compels all spiritual people
to unite in this common goal.

world.
The Indigenous Connection (3m 45sec)
Julia Butterfly Hill talks about her work with indigenous groups
globally. She describes the charity-based approach many “westerners” take
when responding to the plight of indigenous communities. She speaks
about the flaws in such an approach suggesting that western society
must take on a more humble role in attempting to help native peoples.
They have a lot to teach and we have a lot to learn.
Building Alliances (3m 20sec)
Julia looks at how negative news stories in the media fuels consumer
activity. She suggests that positive news will never have a place
in the mainstream media as long as the corporations that support the
media want increased consumption. One way around this is to become
our own media and to network with individuals and groups with common
goals.
Reconnecting Human Nature (5m 20sec)
Julia talks about humanity’s disconnect from nature and how
we are part of nature’s system, not above or beyond it. She
talks about the principals that guide her life as she works to remind
people of this. Life for her is about service and integrity. Where
privilege is enjoyed this is all the more important.
On Globalization (54 sec)

and respect.
