Raindance (for Luna)
by Julie Adams
I am
drip
drip
dripping
inking thoughts
upon the forrest floor
fog slips
from the lips
of brooding clouds
the downy blanket of mist
enraptures the unruly
redwood limbs
p r o t r u d i n g
beyond the hilltop
years from the hum
of the highway
I lick bark
weathered and t o r n
seep
seep
seeping
feeding life
beneath the surface
new growth for you, I
trickle from treetop to trunk
morning through night
this season is mine
to replenish to the core
root
heart
earth
treetops bow to the west wind
but roots hold strong
tied to the hilltop
clinging to all they have
left
I am
drum
drum
drumming
thumbing rain
upon the gnarled fingers
of redwood ancestors
reach to the stars, a butterfly
one last wish
pull clouds close now, huddle,
keep warm, reborn
in my rain, slain
dreams
reverberating on bar
like the pulse of
Luna
I am
flow
flow
flowing
blowing life
between your folds
hungry Luna
suckling my season's inkdrops--
dancing upon glistening limbs
beneath a watchful mother's
moonlight
